The Department of State Service (DSS) has rearrested the former director-general of the Labour Party Presidential Campaign Council, Doyin Okupe.
He was arrested Thursday morning at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos, according to one of his lawyers, Tolu Babaleye.
The lawyer wrote on Facebook that Okupe was asked to produce evidence that the Federal High Court, Abuja has freed him from a case in which he was convicted of money laundering.
That case involves Okupe’s receipt of N702 million of government money meant for the procurement of arms to fight insurgency in 2019.
He was fined N13 million by the Federal High Court, Abuja.
The DSS has now explained that Okupe was rearrested at the request of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
In response to a Nigeria Info inquiry, DSS spokesman Peter Afunanya said the LP former campaign DG has been handed over to the EFCC.
