The Nigerian military has pushed back against reports surrounding the recent attack in Benisheikh, Borno State.
In a statement, Operation Hadin Kai described circulating claims as false and exaggerated.
The command dismissed reports that 17 soldiers, including a Brigade Commander, were killed, insisting that only four personnel — two officers and two soldiers — lost their lives.
It also clarified that the Brigade Commander was operating from a Mine Resistant Ambush Protected vehicle, which was only temporarily immobilised during the battle — not unserviceable as claimed.
According to the military, images and videos being shared online are unrelated to the incident and are being used to spread misinformation.
The command said troops successfully repelled the attack and forced the insurgents to retreat, maintaining control of their position.
It urged the public to rely on official military sources for accurate information, warning that false reports could undermine ongoing operations and troop morale.
