Osun Deputy Gov. Kola Adewusi has described Saturday’s governorship election as largely peaceful, despite an earlier disruption at his polling unit in Ile-Ife.
Adewusi, who is also the Accord Party’s deputy governorship candidate, spoke to Channels Television at Ward 2, Unit 1, near the Enuwa Palace, opposite the palace of the Ooni of Ife.
He said the disruption was resolved and voting continued peacefully.
“The election has been largely peaceful,” Adewusi said, commending voters for turning out to exercise their civic responsibility.
The deputy governor, however, raised concerns about the malfunctioning of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System, or BVAS, during the voting process.
He also alleged cases of vote buying at some polling units in Ile-Ife but did not provide details or evidence to support the claims.
Adewusi urged political parties, candidates and their supporters to abide by the rules and maintain peace throughout voting and the collation of results.
He also commended the Independent National Electoral Commission and security agencies for their efforts to ensure a peaceful election.
Voters across Osun are electing a governor in the closely watched poll, with results expected to be collated officially after voting ends.
The outcome will be determined through the results declared at polling units and subsequently collated by INEC at the various levels.
