Over 100 Nigerians Face Deportation In Fresh US Immigration Crackdown

No fewer than 110 Nigerians are among 355 West Africans slated for deportation by the United States as the administration of President Donald Trump intensifies immigration enforcement across the region.

According to a list released by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Nigeria accounts for the highest number of individuals marked for removal, followed by Liberia with 94 nationals. Ghana and Senegal recorded 30 and 19 persons respectively.

Other countries affected include Cameroon, The Gambia, Côte d’Ivoire, Mauritania, Cape Verde, Burkina Faso, Niger, Guinea, Togo, Mali, Benin and Guinea-Bissau.

The deportations are being carried out under the expanded West Africa Operations Watch (WOW) initiative, a programme aimed at identifying and removing individuals found to be in violation of U.S. immigration laws.

While authorities did not specify the offences linked to those on the current list, previous operations under the enforcement category targeted individuals convicted of crimes such as fraud, money laundering, drug trafficking and violent offences.

Officials said the latest action forms part of a broader effort to address visa overstays, criminal convictions and the use of fraudulent documentation.

The move comes amid a wider tightening of immigration policies in the United States, with the Trump administration continuing to push for stricter border controls and accelerated deportation procedures for undocumented migrants.
