Oyo Government Suspends School Excursions and Outdoor Activities After Abduction Attack

The Oyo State government has suspended all school excursions, field trips, sports competitions and other activities outside school premises following last week’s abduction of students and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area.

In a circular issued by the Ministry of Education and signed by Permanent Secretary Mrs. B.T. Oyinloye, the directive takes immediate effect and overrides all previously approved external school activities.

The decision follows a coordinated attack in the Ahoro-Esiele and Yawota communities, where gunmen abducted students and teachers from several schools in the area, leaving some victims still in captivity.

The ministry said the suspension was necessary due to heightened security concerns after the incident in the Ogbomoso axis, adding that the safety of students remains the government’s top priority.

“All prior approvals granted by the Ministry are hereby overridden by this directive,” the circular stated.

The government instructed school administrators to ensure students remain within school premises during school hours and to report any suspicious activity around schools to security agencies.

It also directed strict compliance with the order, which will remain in force until the security situation improves.

The directive was sent to education authorities across the state, including TESCOM, SUBEB, zonal education directors, and school principals.

The move comes amid growing concern among parents and residents over repeated attacks on schools in parts of the state.
