Paris 2024: NBBF Appeals for Early Funding of D’Tigress

The president of the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF), Musa Kida, has appealed to the federal government to release funds early to enable D’Tigress to prepare for the Paris Olympics.

In February, the women’s national basketball team qualified for the basketball event of the 2024 games in Paris, their third Olympics qualification.

At a press conference on Wednesday, Kida said the federation made plans to ensure that the team prepared ahead of the summer games but lamented the lack of funds.

He disclosed that years of internal wrangling have cost the NBBF sponsorships and funding. He, however, added that the federation has planned three phases of camping for the D’Tigress.

“There would be reparation camping in Nigeria and Ghana with the pool that we have within the country,” Kida said.

“The second camp will be in the U.S. for the people who are playing in the U.S. and the environments there and then the last part of the camp would be for the selected team, basically.

D’Tigress have won the last four editions of FIBA Women’s AfroBasket championships, showing their dominance on the African continent.

The 2024 Olympics are billed for 26 July 26 to 11 August.
