PDP Says Party Will Not Die, Moves to Set Up Interim Leadership

The Peoples Democratic Party says it remains strong despite its internal crisis and is taking steps to stabilise its leadership.

Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Adolphus Wabara, made this known during the party’s 103rd National Executive Committee meeting in Abuja.

He said the Board of Trustees is stepping in to provide interim leadership after a ruling by the Supreme Court of Nigeria nullified the party’s 2025 national convention.

According to him, the judgment effectively dissolved the National Working Committee, creating a leadership gap.

Wabara said the board’s intervention is to prevent a vacuum and ensure continuity within the party.

He also accused unnamed political actors of trying to weaken the PDP through legal battles and what he described as illegal party activities.

The BoT chairman further alleged that the All Progressives Congress is working with some suspended PDP members to destabilise the opposition.

He announced plans to set up an Interim National Working Committee to manage party affairs pending a full restructuring.

Wabara called on the Independent National Electoral Commission to recognise the interim leadership.

He urged party members to stay united ahead of the 2027 elections, insisting the PDP remains committed to internal democracy and ready to reposition itself for the future.
