PDP South East Caucus Re-nominates Udeh-Okoye as National Secretary

The South East Zonal Executive Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has re-nominated Sunday Udeh-Okoye, former National Youth Leader, as the party’s National Secretary.

The resolution was presented by the Senate Minority Leader Osita Ngwu to the party's acting National Working Committee in Abuja.

Ngwu highlighted efforts by various party organs, including the PDP Governors’ Forum, to resolve the crisis surrounding the national secretary position.

Following a Supreme Court judgment, the PDP-GF met on 14 April in Oyo State, leading to the resolution that the South East Zonal Executive Committee should nominate a candidate.

The committee met on 14 May in Enugu and unanimously chose Udeh-Okoye.

Ngwu urged the party's leadership to consider the South East’s request, emphasizing the region's historical support for the PDP. He stressed the importance of resolving the crisis to improve performance in future elections.

Receiving the resolution, the PDP acting National Chairman Umar Damagum, represented by Deputy National Chairman (South) Taofeek Arapaja, expressed confidence in reclaiming the South East.

Damagum assured that the resolution would be reviewed and recommendations forwarded to the National Executive Committee on 27 May. He encouraged party unity and collaboration to find lasting solutions.

Damagum likened the party’s challenges to a leaking house, emphasizing the need for cooperative problem-solving.

He assured members that the PDP is a party capable of overcoming its challenges and fostering peace and expression within its ranks.
