Obi Calls Simultaneous Lent and Ramadan a Chance for National Renewal

Former Anambra Governor Peter Obi says the rare overlap of Lent and Ramadan is a powerful symbol of unity and national rebirth for Nigeria.

In a message on Wednesday, Obi noted that both sacred periods began on the same day, calling it an extraordinary spiritual convergence in a country he described as blessed but struggling with poor leadership.

He said the alignment is more than a coincidence, describing it as a shared season of sacrifice, reflection, and renewed hope amid insecurity and economic challenges.

Obi called it a “Double Fast,” urging Nigerians across religious and regional divides to seek divine mercy for the healing of the nation.

He stressed that prayer must be paired with action, encouraging citizens to embrace charity, forgiveness, and self-discipline—values central to both faiths.

Obi said the period offers a chance for a spiritual reset and a recommitment to shared humanity, expressing hope it could usher in lasting peace and unity.

“A Holy Lent and Ramadan Kareem to all,” he said, adding that with prayers and collective resolve, a new Nigeria is possible.
