Plateau Imposes 48-Hour Curfew After Deadly Attack in Jos North

The Plateau State Government has imposed a 48-hour curfew on Jos North Local Government Area following a deadly attack that left several residents dead and others injured in the Gari Ya Waye community of Angwan Rukuba.

The curfew, which took effect from midnight on Sunday, will remain in force until April 1, 2026, as authorities move to contain rising tensions and prevent further violence.

In a statement, Commissioner for Information and Communication, Joyce Lohya Ramnap, condemned the incident as a “barbaric and unprovoked attack on innocent citizens.”

Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang said security operatives have been deployed to restore order and protect lives and property, urging residents to remain vigilant and support ongoing investigations.

The violence has also disrupted academic activities at the University of Jos, which announced the postponement of examinations scheduled for Monday and Tuesday.

Deputy Registrar Emmanuel Madugu, speaking on behalf of the Registrar, advised students and staff to “exercise extreme caution, avoid early-morning movements, and promptly report any suspicious activity” to security authorities.

University management said it is working closely with security agencies to monitor the situation and ensure the safety of its community.

The latest incident underscores persistent security challenges in parts of Plateau State, where communities have faced recurring attacks in recent years. Authorities have appealed for calm as investigations continue.
