The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has approved the appointment of CSP Anietie Okokon Edem Iniedu as the new Force Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Police Force.
Iniedu’s appointment comes barely three months after his predecessor, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, assumed the role.
A statement issued on Friday by the outgoing FPRO, Placid, described Iniedu as a seasoned officer with experience in public communication, operational policing, intelligence management, institutional accountability and administration.
The statement said Iniedu has held several positions, including Operations Officer at Maisandari Division in Yobe State, Area Crime Officer at Umuahia Area Command in Abia State, Staff Officer at the IGP Secretariat, Force Headquarters, and Second-in-Command of the 50 Police Mobile Force Squadron in Kubwa.
He also served as Officer-in-Charge of the Force Headquarters Situation Room, where he coordinated and managed the dissemination of crime and security information nationwide.
Iniedu previously served as Public Relations Officer of the Police College of Information Technology, Kobape, Ogun State, among other operational and administrative roles across the country.
The new police spokesperson, a native of Etinan Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Pure Chemistry from the University of Uyo.
According to the statement, he has received professional training in investigative interviewing, crime scene management, human rights-based policing, strategic communication and intelligence analysis.
The Inspector-General of Police expressed confidence in Iniedu’s ability to lead the Force Public Relations Department, saying his experience would support improved communication and public engagement as the force continues ongoing reforms.
Iniedu takes over from Placid, who was appointed FPRO on March 8, 2026, succeeding Benjamin Hundeyin.
