The Nigeria Police Force has launched the NPF Vigilant App, a digital platform designed to help members of the public report suspected financial fraud and track their cases.
Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu launched the app Tuesday at the NPF Conference Centre in Jabi, Abuja.
The police said the app was developed by the Force ICT Department in collaboration with stakeholders in the financial services sector to improve the reporting and response to financial fraud.
According to the force, users can submit reports of suspected fraud, upload relevant evidence, track the progress of their cases and receive feedback through the platform.
The app is also designed to support coordination between the police and relevant financial institutions in handling reported cases, in line with existing laws and procedures.
Disu described the app as part of the police force’s digital transformation efforts, saying it would strengthen engagement with the public and improve the response to financial crimes.
He said technology must be deployed lawfully, ethically and responsibly, with respect for citizens’ rights, privacy, data protection and accountability.
Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Information and Communication Technology, Fayoade Adegoke Mustapha, urged Nigerians to download the NPF Vigilant App from the Google Play Store and Apple App Store and use it responsibly to report suspected financial fraud.
The launch was attended by representatives of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System, financial institutions, fintech companies and other stakeholders.
The police said the initiative is part of efforts to provide more accessible and responsive services to Nigerians.
