The Nigeria Police Force has rescued the younger sister of former Minister of Power and Oyo State governorship aspirant, Adebayo Adelabu, and her twin sons, 84 hours after they were abducted in Ibadan.
According to information shared on X by Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul and her 12-year-old twin sons, Peter and Paul, were rescued on June 6 following an intensive operation by operatives of the Force Intelligence Department–Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT).
Mrs. Adegoke and her sons were abducted at about 7:30 a.m. on June 3 while she was taking the children to school in Ibadan. Their rescue came at about 7:30 p.m. on June 6 after what police described as sustained surveillance, intelligence gathering and tactical operations.
Police said two suspected kidnappers were fatally wounded during the rescue operation, while two rifles were recovered from the suspects. The victims were rescued unharmed.
The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, commended the FID-IRT operatives for their professionalism and persistence in securing the victims’ freedom.
Police said some members of the gang escaped with gunshot wounds and remain the subject of an ongoing manhunt.
The abduction of Mrs. Adegoke, the younger sister of Adelabu, had sparked concern in Oyo State after gunmen seized her and the children while they were on their way to school. Authorities say efforts to arrest all those involved in the crime are continuing.
