President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed sadness over the death of Rear Admiral Musa Katagum, Chief of Naval Operations of the Nigerian Navy. He died on Thursday after a prolonged illness.
In a statement issued on Friday, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said Tinubu condoled with the family of the deceased.
He also extended condolences to officers and men of the Nigerian Navy and the leadership of the Armed Forces.
The President described Katagum’s passing as a blow to the military and the country.
He said the late officer’s vast experience and invaluable contributions to the Navy and the Armed Forces will be remembered.
Katagum held several key positions during his career. He served as Director of Presidential Communication, Command and Control Centre.
He also served as Chief of Intelligence of the Nigerian Navy.
In November 2025, he was appointed Chief of Naval Operations
The President commended his valour, leadership, and commitment to mentoring younger officers and prayed for comfort for his family and colleagues.
Sources say Katagum died in Egypt while receiving medical treatment and has since been buried in accordance with Islamic rites.
