Rescued Kogi Examination Centre Abductees Arrive Government House

The four victims rescued after being abducted during an attack on an examination centre in Olowa, Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State, have arrived at the Government House in Lokoja, where they were received by Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo.

A video shared on Friday showed the governor welcoming the rescued victims, comprising the school principal, a National Examinations Council (NECO) official and two students, alongside heads of security agencies in the state.

The victims were freed during a coordinated rescue operation launched after armed men attacked the examination centre and abducted them while the 2026 Senior School Certificate Examination was underway.

The Kogi State Government said the operation was carried out by a joint team of the Nigerian Army, the Department of State Services, the Nigeria Police Force, local vigilantes and other security agencies following a directive from Governor Ododo.

Meanwhile, the National Examinations Council has defended the integrity of Government Secondary School, Olowa, rejecting claims that it operates as a "miracle centre."

In a statement, NECO said the school is a legitimate public institution owned by the Kogi State Government, has existed for more than 40 years, and has consistently presented candidates for the Senior School Certificate Examination since 2000.
