Rivers: Wike, Fubara Meet in Abuja, PDP Calls for Peace

As the future of the Governor of Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara remains up in the air following impeachment attempts against him, the clearest indication yet of a resolution may have been seen.

This is because the Rivers State Governor reportedly met with former governor of the state, Nyesome Wike at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Tuesday.

Fubara, a little over 24 hours ago had impeachment proceedings launched against him by the state House of Assembly for acts of gross misconduct regarding his office.

The meeting of both men - who themselves are at rift according to reports- in Abuja was for another meeting for the Nigeria Police Council which was chaired by President Bola Tinubu and also has as council members the Chairman of the Police Service Commission, the Inspector-General of Police and governors of each state.

Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party's (PDP) National Working Committee (NWC) has appealed to all aggrieved parties in Rivers State to seek out a peaceful resolution to the crises rocking the state.

Spokesman for the party, Debo Ologunagba in a statement said "delivery of dividends of democracy to the people" should be the focus.

“The NWC therefore charges all leaders, critical stakeholders, and members of our great Party in Rivers State to close ranks, unite, and focus on the onerous task of governance and delivery of dividends of democracy to the people,” said Debo.

Recall that Security agents had on Sunday taken over the Rivers State House of Assembly complex following a fire outbreak at the chamber around 10 p.m.
