Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his Ogun State counterpart, Dapo Abiodun, have commended the Nigeria Police Force for the success of the ongoing Operation Kosaye, a joint security operation targeting criminal hideouts across Lagos and Ogun states.
The operation led to the arrest of 88 suspects, the rescue of five kidnapped victims, the killing of four suspected criminals during a gun battle with security operatives, and the recovery of arms and ammunition.
In a statement issued by the Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, Sanwo-Olu praised the police and other security agencies for their efforts, pledging continued collaboration to keep the state safe.
"We will continue to work with the police and other security agencies to ensure that our state is safe and secure for residents and visitors," the governor said, while also acknowledging the cooperation of the Ogun State Government.
He urged Lagos residents to continue providing security agencies with credible information on criminal hideouts.
Similarly, Abiodun described Operation Kosaye as a bold, proactive and intelligence-driven initiative that has strengthened security across both states.
According to the governor, the operation has recorded significant successes through coordinated raids on forests and criminal hideouts along the Ogun-Lagos corridor, leading to the arrest of suspects, the neutralisation of armed criminals and the rescue of kidnap victims.
He reaffirmed his administration's commitment to supporting security agencies with logistics, operational resources and technology to improve policing across Ogun State.
Meanwhile, an Islamic cleric in Ondo State, Sheikh AbdulRauf Lagbaji, called on governments at all levels to ensure the prosecution of convicted kidnappers and bandits, warning against reintegrating such offenders into society.
Speaking during an Ashura lecture organised by the Muslim Media Practitioners of Nigeria in Akure, Lagbaji also urged the Ondo State Government to ensure the swift execution of those convicted over the 2022 Owo church attack.
He further appealed for constitutional amendments to allow the immediate execution of convicted kidnappers and bandits and urged lawyers not to defend suspects facing such charges.
