Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has met with security chiefs in the state ahead of President Bola Tinubu’s visit to Lagos and increased activities expected during the end-of-year period.
Sanwo-Olu held the security council meeting on Tuesday at the State House, Marina, where he was briefed on security activities and plans to strengthen security across the state.
The meeting was disclosed in a statement by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, who said the governor was briefed on measures being taken ahead of the Yuletide and the expected influx of visitors.
Sanwo-Olu assured residents and visitors that the state government would continue to take steps to prevent criminal activities and protect lives and property.
The governor said security agencies would not relent in their efforts to prevent criminals from carrying out their activities in Lagos.
Omotoso said Lagos would host President Tinubu from Tuesday, with several activities expected to take place during the visit.
He added that the state was also preparing for increased movement during the Yuletide, as well as various religious and cultural events.
Political activities are also expected to increase following the Independent National Electoral Commission’s announcement that campaigns can begin ahead of the 2027 elections.
Those at the meeting included the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai; Commander, 9 Brigade, Ikeja, Brigadier General A.O. Owolabi; Commander, Nigerian Navy Ship Beecroft, Commodore A. Adams-Aliu; Commander, 651 Base Services Group, Ikeja, Air Commodore M.A. Imam; and Executive Secretary of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund, Ayodele Ogunsan.
The meeting comes as Lagos prepares for heightened movement and activities linked to the President’s visit, the festive season, and upcoming political, religious and cultural events.
