Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has directed the immediate reconstruction and rehabilitation of roads across the state, as the dry season provides better conditions for road works.
The General Manager of the Lagos State Public Works Corporation, Tokunbo Ajanaku, says several roads in Oshodi-Isolo are undergoing reconstruction, including Godwin Omonuwa Road, Taiwo Street, Salamotu Street, Peter Agah Street and Ibeh Street.
Other roads being rehabilitated include Ogunnusi Road in Ojodu, Awolowo Way in Ikeja, Lanre Awolokun Road and Idowu Olaitan Street in Somolu, as well as Idimu-Ikotun Road in Alimosho.
Ajanaku says the projects are aimed at improving movement, reducing transportation costs, enhancing road safety and supporting businesses across affected communities.
He explains that heavy rainfall often limited asphalt laying during the rainy season, although emergency repairs were carried out to keep major roads motorable.
The corporation says it is now focusing on more extensive and lasting repairs, with some work scheduled at night to minimise traffic disruption.
Ajanaku has appealed to residents to be patient, adding that roads will be prioritised based on their condition, traffic volume and the urgency of repairs.
