Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to human capital development, particularly education and the empowerment of vulnerable children.
Sanwo-Olu made the commitment on Sunday while commissioning the permanent home of Dream Catchers Academy, an initiative established to shelter, educate and empower vulnerable girls.
Represented by the Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Bolaji Ogunlende, the governor described the facility as a significant social intervention that complements the state’s investments in physical infrastructure.
Ogunlende said the academy’s journey began in 2014 when its founder, Seyi Oluyole, opened her apartment to five girls without accommodation.
He said the initiative has since educated girls, rescued more than 10 from child marriage and reached over 10,000 girls and their families through various interventions.
The new facility, according to him, has transformed the academy into a permanent home for 100 vulnerable girls, allowing it to provide them with education, skills and a safe environment.
Earlier, Oluyole said the initiative was inspired by her own experience of homelessness as a child.
She thanked Sanwo-Olu, donors, partners and supporters for helping the academy achieve its long-held dream.
She, however, appealed to the Lagos State Government to improve the access road leading to the academy to ease movement and support development around the facility.
Some of the students expressed joy over the completion of the new home, saying it had strengthened their belief that their dreams could become reality.
