SDP’s Adebayo-Bugaje Suspends Campaign Activities over NAF Crash

The Adebayo-Bugaje presidential campaign of the Social Democratic Party has suspended all campaign activities for one week in honour of the 25 people killed in Monday’s Nigerian Air Force aircraft crash in Igbokoda, Ondo State.

The suspension, announced Wednesday in Abuja, covers rallies, town hall meetings, stakeholder engagements and media appearances.

Mark Adebayo, head of the campaign’s Media and Communications Directorate, said the decision was intended to honour the victims and show solidarity with the Nigerian Air Force and the Armed Forces of Nigeria.

The campaign said it was “deeply devastated” by the crash, stressing that the victims had made sacrifices in service to the country.

“In moments of such monumental national tragedy, politics must take a backseat to national mourning and deep reflection,” the campaign said.

According to the statement, SDP presidential candidate Adewole Adebayo and his running mate, Usman Bugaje, had condoled with the Chief of the Air Staff, the NAF leadership and the victims’ families.

The campaign also called for comprehensive insurance coverage for Armed Forces personnel and other security agencies, as well as regular maintenance of military aircraft and other equipment.

“The sacrifices of our gallant officers must be matched with concrete welfare and safety measures,” the campaign said.
