The operation involved the Department of State Services, the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Police Force, and local vigilantes.

Those rescued included 16 women.

Two men were also freed.

Three babies were among the victims.

The government said the victims were abducted from Gidan Sarkin Bayero village in Musawa Local Government Area and other locations.

Officials said 19 of the victims are Christians.

They described the kidnappings as indiscriminate and not targeted at any religious group.

The raid targeted an enclave linked to a notorious bandit leader identified as Kamilu Chiroma, also known as Buzaru.
