Senate Confirms 11 Supreme Court Justices

The Senate has confirmed the nomination of 11 Justices of the Supreme Court.

Thursday’s confirmation followed a debate on a report submitted by the chairman of the Senate Committee on Judiciary, Mohammed Monguno.

After the presentation of the debate at plenary, the lawmakers stressed the impropriety of leaving a vacuum in the apex court for an extended period before making appointments.

The newly confirmed judges include Justice Haruna Tsammani (North-East), who chaired the 2023 Presidential Election Petition Court, Justice Jummai Sankey (North-Central), Justice Moore Adumein (South-South), Justice Chidiebere Uwa (South-East) and Justice Chioma Nwosu-Iheme (South-East).

The others are Justice Obande Ogbuinya (South-East), Justice Stephen Adah (North-Central), Justice Habeeb Abiru (South-West), Justice Jamilu Tukur (North-West), Justice Abubakar Umar (North-West) and Justice Mohammed Idris (North-Central).

The confirmation is a sequel to President Bola Tinubu’s request to the lawmakers seeking their screening.
