Senate Sets March 17 for Passage of ₦48.47 Trillion 2026 Budget  

The Senate, through its Committee on Appropriations, has tentatively fixed Tuesday, March 17, for the final consideration and passage of the ₦48.472 trillion 2026 Appropriation Bill.

The committee announced that consideration of the budget estimates at the committee level will take place between February 2 and February 13, as part of efforts to meet the proposed timeline.

For wider participation, a public hearing on the budget proposal has been scheduled for Monday, February 9.

The committee chairman, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, said an economics expert from the University of Lagos, Professor Wasiu Adeoye, will make a presentation at the session.

An interactive session between members of the committee and key economic managers of the federal government, including the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, and the Minister of Budget and National Planning, Senator Atiku Bagudu, has been fixed for Thursday, March 5.

The committee said reports from budget defence sessions by various committees will be submitted between February 16 and 23, ahead of presentation to the Senate, and has adopted the timetable to allow thorough scrutiny of the budget before passage.
