Senegal Clinches 2025 AFCON with Thrilling 1-0 Win Over Morocco

Senegal clinched the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title with a thrilling 1-0 victory over hosts Morocco in Rabat on Sunday.

The winning goal came from Pape Gueye, who fired a powerful strike into the top corner during extra time to seal the championship for Senegal.

The match was marked by intense drama in added time when Morocco’s Brahim Diaz missed a controversial penalty. The spot-kick was awarded after a VAR review, ruling that Diaz was fouled by Senegal’s El Hadji Malick Diouf. Senegal players immediately left the field in protest, following a disallowed goal by Ismaila Sarr moments earlier.

Tensions escalated further as frustrated fans broke through hoardings in the stands during the ninth minute of added time, causing chaos.

Senegal’s win marks their first AFCON title since 2021 and adds to their growing reputation as one of Africa’s football powerhouses.
