Serena Williams Handed Wimbledon Wildcard for Singles Comeback

Serena Williams has been granted a wildcard entry into the women’s singles draw at Wimbledon Championships, marking a major return to top-level competition.

The 44-year-old will make her first singles appearance at Wimbledon since 2022, following a near four-year absence from the format.

‎‎Williams, a seven-time Wimbledon singles champion and 23-time Grand Slam winner, had initially confirmed her comeback through doubles, where she is also set to feature alongside her sister, Venus Williams.

‎‎Her inclusion in the singles draw comes as the final wildcard selection by the All England Club, a move that has generated excitement ahead of the tournament, which begins later this month.

‎‎Williams recently returned to competitive tennis in doubles events at Queen’s Club and Berlin as part of her preparation for the grass-court season.

‎The American legend, widely regarded as one of the greatest players in the history of the sport, will now test herself again at the highest level as she targets a strong showing at SW19.

‎‎Her return adds significant attention to this year’s tournament, with questions around her fitness, form, and ability to compete against the current generation of players.
