SLIDE SHOW: The Weekend in Pictures

It was a weekend of highs and lows. We saw Nigerians throng a Continuous Voter Registration centre in large numbers, but we also witnessed the national grid fall as low as zero Megawatts.

Nigerians, already used to blackouts, had to deal with another total collapse of the national grid Sunday evening.

It marked the fifth publicly acknowledged collapse of the grid in 2022. It happened around 6:47 pm, according to Kaduna Electric, and put the whole country in darkness.

Another low was witnessed in Zamfara State where gunmen abducted no fewer than 50 guests at a wedding.

But there were highs, particularly in Lagos where a crowd surged to register for their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) at the Tafawa Balewa Square.

There was also a free music concert Saturday in Lagos, which was organised as a PVC registration awareness drive.

Then there was the Democracy Day celebration on Sunday, marking 23 years of unbroken governance by the people for the people in the country of 200 million humans.

We can’t forget the incident at a club involving Grammy award winner, Burna Boy. The police are investigating the incident.
