The State House Nigeria has explained the adjustment in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s planned visit to Plateau State, citing security, logistics and diplomatic engagements.
According to the presidency, the President’s schedule was delayed after a prolonged meeting with Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
It said Tinubu had initially planned visits to Iperu in Ogun State and Jos in Plateau State, following a security briefing by Governor Caleb Mutfwang.
However, the delay, combined with operational limitations at the Jos airport, including the lack of night landing facilities, made the trip unfeasible.
Instead, victims and community representatives were brought to meet the President near the airport, where he offered condolences and held discussions on the crisis.
The presidency added that senior security officials were deployed to affected areas for assessments, while the President assured residents of federal support, including plans to deploy surveillance technology to strengthen security.
It maintained that the engagement was aimed at addressing the root causes of the violence and promoting lasting peace in the state.
