Super Falcons: Justin Madugu nominated for 2025 Ballon d’Or Award

In what is turning out to be a truly sensational last 31 days for Nigeria's Women's national football team, Super Falcons head coach, Justine Madugu has been nominated for the prestigious 2025 Ballon d’Or Women’s Team Coach of the Year award.

The announcements were made on Thursday by France Football, the French magazine that presents the Ballon d'Or.

The nomination for the Super Falcons tactician comes in the wake of the team's victorious outing at the just concluded Women's African Cup of Nations (WAFCON) tournament in Morocco, where they won the continent's biggest prize for a record tenth time.

The 61-year-old will be aiming to beat Chelsea Women's coach, Sonia Bompastor, who won the domestic treble of the league, FA Cup and League Cup with the Blues last season, and her Women's Super League counterpart, Arsenal's Renee Slegers, who guided her side to the Women's UEFA Champions League trophy to the award.

Also in the five-man list is Brazil Women's manager, Arthur Elias, and victorious England Women's manager, Sarina Wiegman.

Arthur led Brazil to a successful defense of their Copa América Femenina title in Colombia this month, while Sarina guided the Lionesses to victory last month at the UEFA Women's Euros held in Switzerland.

The winner of the award will be announced on 22 September 2025 during a ceremony at the Theatre du Chatelet in central Paris.
