“Take a Bow”: Senate Eases Screening for Fani-Kayode, Dambazau

The Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs on Thursday screened two former ministers, Femi Fani-Kayode and Abdulrahman Dambazau nominated by President Bola Tinubu for ambassadorial appointments.

Fani-Kayode, a former Minister of Aviation, and Dambazau, a former Minister of Interior, were asked to “take a bow and leave” after brief introductions, in line with Senate tradition for nominees with prior public service records.

Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele defended the practice, saying it applies to individuals with “established and verifiable records of service,” including former lawmakers.

“Their legislative history and public profile are already well known to the Senate,” he said.

The screening came after President Tinubu forwarded a list of 32 ambassadorial nominees to the Senate on November 29.

The nominees’ confirmation now awaits approval by the full Senate.
