Telecoms Union Suspends Planned Strike

The Private Telecommunications and Communications Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PTECSSAN) has suspended its planned strike.

The union declared on April 2 that it would go on an indefinite strike in response to purported unresolved disputes with subcontractors.

PTECSSAN threatened an industrial action effective April 4, 2024 against the undersigned subcontractors to address concerns of her members.

The sub-contractors included Reime Group, Allstream Energy Solutions Ltd., Uppercrest Ltd., Tyllium Nigeria Ltd. and Specific Tools and Techniques Ltd.

The union is demanding that its members' dues be paid on time, that their fundamental right to organize be recognized immediately, and that the union be recognized as the representative in negotiations for their well-being.

“This led to a meeting at the union’s secretariat and the following agreements were reached including companies recognising the fundamental rights of the employees to freely associate with the union.”

On Wednesday, the union stated that agreements made with the subcontractors it had disagreements with were the reason for the suspension.
