Terrorists Kill 15 Farmers in Borno

Suspected Boko Haram terrorists have killed 15 farmers in a fresh attack in Marte Local Government Area of Borno State.

The victims were attacked on Wednesday evening while working on their farms and gathering firewood in Ala and Musune wards.

The Borno State Police Command says three other farmers are still missing and a search is underway to establish their whereabouts.

Police Public Relations Officer, Nahum Daso, confirmed the attack, saying details remained sketchy but 15 people had been killed while efforts continued to locate those missing.

Local sources, however, said 18 farmers were attacked, with 15 bodies recovered and buried on Thursday according to Islamic rites.

They said the victims included young and elderly residents who had gone into the bush to farm or gather firewood for their families.

A community source said the farmers were ambushed, tied up and executed at close range, while some of the victims were reportedly decapitated.

Amnesty International has condemned the killings, describing the attack as a grave violation of international humanitarian law.

The organisation called on the government to take immediate steps to protect vulnerable communities in the North-East.
