At least seven persons have been killed, and several others abducted in an attack by terrorists on two churches in Ariko community, Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday during Easter celebrations, throwing the community into panic as gunmen stormed the area in large numbers.
The affected worship centres have been identified as First ECWA Church and St. Augustine Catholic Church, both located within the community.
The councillor representing Awon Ward, Mark Bawa, confirmed the attack, stating that the casualty figures were still being verified.
“I am currently on my way to the community to ascertain the exact number of casualties,” he said.
“Some sources said seven persons were killed, while others claimed eight. I will provide an update once details are confirmed.”
Bawa added that the attackers surrounded the area and opened fire sporadically on worshippers before abducting several residents.
Residents said the assailants operated for an extended period without resistance, raising concerns over the vulnerability of rural communities in the area.
The latest incident comes barely two months after a similar attack in Kurmin Wali community, also in Kachia Local Government Area, where several worshippers were abducted during a church gathering.
As of the time of this report, the Kaduna State Police Command has yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
