Three worshippers of the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) in Omugo, Kwara State, have regained their freedom after spending 105 days in captivity.
The three women, including a hearing-impaired widow, were among eight worshippers abducted during a Sunday service on March 22, 2026, by suspected kidnappers who attacked the church in Ifelodun Local Government Area.
Five of the victims reportedly died while in captivity, while the remaining three were rescued following a coordinated security operation against kidnappers operating in forests along the Kwara-Kogi border.
President of the Omugo Development Union, Oladimeji Thompson, described the development as a moment of relief mixed with grief, as the community celebrated the return of the three women while mourning those who lost their lives.
Thompson commended security agencies, including the police, Department of State Services, armed forces and local vigilante groups for their role in securing the victims’ release.
The Joint Security Watch, Kwara South, said the rescue followed sustained pressure on the kidnappers during a joint operation involving security forces from Kogi State.
The pastor-in-charge of ECWA Omugo, Rev. Sunday Omole, confirmed the return of the worshippers and appealed for prayers for their recovery.
