Tinubu Appoints Abel Enitan as Head of Civil Service

President Bola Tinubu has appointed Abel Olumuyiwa Enitan as the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, effective Aug. 27, 2026.

Enitan will succeed Didi Esther Walson-Jack, who is due to retire from the Federal Civil Service after attaining the statutory retirement age of 60.

The appointment was announced Wednesday in a statement by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.

Enitan, from Osun State, is the most senior Permanent Secretary in the Federal Civil Service and has served in that capacity for seven years and seven months.

He has worked at the Ministry of Police Affairs, Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and the Office of the Vice President, and is currently Permanent Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Education.

According to the statement, Enitan brings extensive institutional experience and knowledge of the Federal Civil Service to the new role.

Tinubu commended Walson-Jack for her service to the country, citing reforms, innovations and other impacts recorded in the Civil Service during her tenure.

The president charged Enitan to consolidate ongoing reforms, deepen professionalism and efficiency, and build a more effective and responsive Civil Service.

He also urged the incoming Head of Service to promote a professional, merit-driven, accountable and innovative public service responsive to the needs of Nigerians.

Enitan was born Dec. 12, 1966. He earned a bachelor's degree in Finance and Banking from the University of Lagos in 1988 and a master's degree in Public Policy Analysis from Nasarawa State University, Lafia, in 2015.
