President Bola Tinubu has approved the establishment of a committee to draft a five-year strategic defence cooperation plan for Nigeria.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, disclosed this Wednesday while briefing State House correspondents after the Federal Executive Council meeting chaired by Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Idris said the committee will comprise the National Security Adviser, the two Ministers of Defence, the Chief of Defence Staff and all service chiefs.
Other members include the Director-General of the Department of State Services, the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency and the Special Adviser to the President on Homeland Security, who will serve as the committee's secretariat.
“The council today also approved the establishment of a drafting committee for a five-year strategic defence cooperation plan,” Idris said.
He said the committee has 90 days from Wednesday to submit its report to the president.
“They have 90 days from today to submit their report to Mr President,” he said.
