President Bola Tinubu has assured Nigerians that his administration will defeat terrorists and restore peace across the country, saying insurgents are already losing ground due to intensified military operations.
Tinubu gave the assurance on Monday while hosting religious and traditional leaders for an interfaith Iftar at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
According to a statement by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President said his government would not allow agents of instability to undermine Nigeria’s peace, unity and sovereignty.
He acknowledged that the country faces security challenges but insisted that terrorists were becoming increasingly desperate as security forces continue to intensify operations against them.
“Yes, we are challenged; the terrorists are very desperate now because they are getting barraged and defeated,” the President said.
Tinubu urged Nigerians not to lose hope, assuring that his administration remained committed to building a safer and more secure nation.
He also emphasised the role of religious and traditional leaders in promoting peace and stability within their communities.
The meeting brought together leaders of the Christian and Muslim communities from across the country. The Etsu Nupe, Yahaya Abubakar, thanked the President for hosting the gathering, describing it as a symbol of unity and peaceful coexistence among Nigerians.
Also speaking, the President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, pledged the church’s support for the government’s efforts to strengthen the country’s security architecture and improve the economy.
Tinubu’s remarks came amid renewed security concerns in parts of the country, including recent attacks on military formations in the North-East.
The President, however, maintained that the government would sustain its efforts to defeat terrorism and ensure lasting peace across Nigeria.
