President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended congratulations to the winners of the recent elections in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and the states of Kano and Rivers, praising the peaceful conduct of the polls and highlighting strong leadership within the ruling party.
In a statement issued on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Mr. Tinubu applauded candidates who emerged victorious in Saturday’s elections across the six area councils of the FCT—as well as by-elections in the Ahoada East II and Khana II constituencies in Rivers and the Kano Municipal and Ungogo constituencies in Kano State.
The President urged those elected to approach their new roles with humility, patriotism and dedication, describing the mandate given by voters as “a sacred trust.”
He also commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies and residents for helping ensure that the electoral process was peaceful and credible.
In his remarks, Tinubu singled out Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the FCT, for his “remarkable achievements in the territory,” saying his leadership had delivered significant political dividends to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The President also congratulated the APC’s national leadership and the party’s chapters in Kano and Rivers states for their performance at the polls.
He emphasized the value of strong democratic institutions and called on INEC to continue improving the quality of electoral administration in future contests.
Although the APC made significant gains in several councils and constituencies, observers reported low voter turnout in some areas, and opposition parties, notably the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), have indicated plans to pursue legal challenges to certain results.
The elections are seen as an important barometer ahead of the 2027 general elections, and the national leadership has described the overall outcome as a sign of Nigeria’s evolving democratic culture.
