President Bola Tinubu has dissolved the Presidential Implementation Committee (PIC) on the Alienation of Federal Government Properties, bringing an end to the operations of the committee set up to oversee the sale, lease and privatisation of federal government landed assets.
A statement issued by the President's Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said the committee's secretary, Bello S. Dutsin-Ma, has been directed to immediately stop acting on behalf of the dissolved committee and the Federal Government on matters relating to its activities.
The Presidency said all responsibilities previously handled by the committee will now be coordinated by the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi.
Established in 2000 during the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, the committee was created to implement the Federal Government's monetisation policy for public assets.
It included representatives from several ministries and the Nigeria Police Force.
According to the Presidency, the committee has outlived its mandate, with its activities extending beyond its original purpose and resulting in multiple legal disputes across the country.
It said the continued existence of the committee was no longer justified.
