Tinubu Seeks Senate Confirmation for Oyedele, Abe

President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday asked the Senate to confirm Mr. Taiwo Oyedele as Minister of State for Finance and former Senator Magnus Abe as chairman of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC).

Senate President Godswill Akpabio read the letters in plenary and referred the nominations to relevant committees for review.

Tinubu said Oyedele’s appointment is part of “ongoing adjustments within the Federal Executive Council.”

Oyedele, from Ikaram in Akoko, Ondo State, replaces Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite.

The 50-year-old economist and policy expert previously chaired the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, leading efforts to overhaul Nigeria’s tax system.

He spent 22 years at PwC, rising to Fiscal Policy Partner and Africa Tax Leader.

Abe is nominated to lead the NUPRC following the resignation of Gbenga Komolafe.

Tinubu also proposed Paul Yaro Jezhi and Sunday Adebayo Babalola as non-executive commissioners.

“The Senate’s review and confirmation of these nominees will strengthen governance in finance and petroleum sectors,” the President said.
