President Bola Tinubu has officially sworn in Dr. Muttaqha Rabe Darma as the new Minister of Housing and Urban Development, following his confirmation by the Senate.
The swearing-in ceremony, held on Friday at the State House in Abuja, marks a leadership change in the ministry after the resignation of former minister Ahmed Musa Dangiwa.
Speaking during the brief event, President Tinubu described Darma’s appointment as coming at a critical period for Nigeria’s development.
He expressed confidence in the new minister’s capacity, citing his extensive professional background and track record in public service.
“You are coming on board at a very challenging time of national development,” Tinubu said, adding that Darma’s experience makes him well-suited for the role.
Dr. Darma is an accomplished scholar and administrator with degrees spanning engineering and business.
His academic credentials include a Doctor of Business Administration from the University of Liverpool and a PhD in Industrial Engineering from Atlantic International University.
He earned his first degree in Mechanical Engineering from Bayero University Kano and later obtained a Master’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering from the University of Benin.
Beyond academia, Darma has held several key government roles. He previously served as Executive Secretary of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund between 2008 and 2012.
He also worked as Commissioner for Works, Housing and Transport, as well as Commissioner for Rural and Social Development in Katsina State.
In addition, he has contributed to academia as a lecturer and is a member of both the Nigerian Society of Engineers and the Nigerian Institute of Management.
Prior to his appointment, Darma was President of the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua Human Development Centre.
His appointment is expected to play a key role in shaping housing policy and urban development strategies as the government seeks to address infrastructure and housing challenges across the country.
