Tinubu Swears in Olatunji Disu as Substantive IGP

President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday swore in Olatunji Disu as Nigeria’s substantive Inspector-General of Police at the State House, Abuja.

Disu, 59, took the oath of office at 2:53 p.m., following a citation read by the State House Director of Information, Abiodun Oladunjoye.

The ceremony was attended by Vice President Kashim Shettima, ministers, security chiefs, and family members.

The appointment follows unanimous approval by the Nigeria Police Council on Monday, a week after Disu was named acting IGP following the resignation of Kayode Egbetokun.

President Tinubu also swore in commissioners of the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission and the Federal Civil Service Commission at the ceremony.

Disu’s career spans more than three decades in the force. He previously commanded the Lagos Rapid Response Squad (2015–2021) and served in Rivers State as Assistant Commissioner of Police in the Criminal Investigation Department.

He holds qualifications in public administration, criminology, forensic investigation, and security management.

Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu praised Disu’s service record, noting his excellence in crime control.

Nasarawa Governor Abdullahi Sule and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike also endorsed the appointment, citing his professionalism and dedication.

In his remarks last week as acting IGP, Disu pledged to end impunity, enforce zero tolerance for corruption, and restore public confidence in the police, emphasizing discipline and inter-agency collaboration.

“Leadership in the police is about responsibility, not position,” Disu said. “We will uphold human rights, fairness, and justice for all Nigerians.”
