Tinubu to Present 2027 Budget Before End of Year

President Bola Tinubu is expected to present the 2027 Appropriation Bill to the National Assembly before the end of this year, as the Federal Government continues preparations for the next fiscal year.

The Minister of State for Budget and Economic Planning, Doris Uzoka-Anite, disclosed this on Wednesday while briefing State House correspondents after the Federal Executive Council meeting chaired by President Tinubu at the Council Chamber of the State House in Abuja.

Uzoka-Anite said work on the proposed budget was ongoing and that the government intended to submit it to the legislature before the end of 2026.

“We are working on the budget for 2027, and the intention is to present it before the end of the year,” she said in response to a question on the timeline for the budget presentation.

The proposed budget will outline the Federal Government’s spending plans and revenue expectations for 2027, including allocations for ministries, departments and agencies, as well as funding for government programmes and projects.

Preparations for the fiscal plan have already involved the submission of personnel cost proposals by government agencies.

In a circular dated September 4, 2026, the Budget Office of the Federation directed all ministries, departments and agencies to submit their 2027 personnel cost proposals, alongside their establishment Acts, by September 18.

The circular was signed by the Director-General of the Budget Office, Tanimu Yakubu, and forms part of the process for determining personnel-related allocations in the next budget.

Under the directive, agencies were required to provide the laws establishing them as part of their submissions. The measure followed concerns over fictitious agencies uncovered by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission.

The circular also stated that agencies not captured on the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System or the Government Integrated Financial Management Information System would not receive personnel cost provisions in the 2027 budget.

The requirements are intended to strengthen verification of government agencies and personnel costs as the Federal Government prepares its spending plan for the coming year.

Tinubu’s planned presentation of the 2027 budget before the end of December would allow the National Assembly to begin consideration of the fiscal proposals ahead of the new financial year.
