Transmission Commission Reports Vandalism of Six Transmission Towers on Apir–Lafia 330kV Line

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) says six transmission towers along the Apir–Lafia 330kV Transmission Lines I and II have been vandalized, disrupting power supply along the corridor.

In a statement by Ndidi Mbah, General Manager, Public Affairs, TCN said the affected towers, T125 to T130, collapsed at about 1:15 a.m. on May 30, 2026, during a heavy downpour.

It said initial reclosure on Line II at 2:08 a.m. failed, prompting a line inspection that confirmed vandalism of critical components.

TCN said both transmission lines are currently out of service pending reconstruction.

It added that engineers have been mobilized to assess the damage and determine the materials needed for restoration works.

The company said the Lafia 330kV Transmission Station is being temporarily supplied through the Lafia–Jos line to reduce the impact on customers in the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) and Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JEDC) franchise areas.

TCN condemned the repeated vandalism of power infrastructure, warning that it undermines investments in the sector and disrupts electricity supply.

It urged host communities to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities around transmission installations to security agencies.
