Troops under Sector 2 of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have killed several terrorists and recovered weapons and rustled livestock in coordinated operations across Sokoto and Katsina states, the Nigerian Army said.
In Sokoto, troops responded to a distress call after suspected Lakurawa terrorists attempted to burn a Nigerian Immigration Service facility in Ruwa Wiri village, Tangaza Local Government Area. Soldiers engaged the attackers in a firefight, killing two terrorists, while others fled.
Troops later recovered two AK-47 rifles, ammunition and a motorcycle during a sweep of the area.
In Katsina State, troops on patrol in Jibia Local Government Area intercepted terrorists moving rustled cattle at Danya Bakwai settlement.
The soldiers engaged the suspects, forcing them to abandon 62 livestock, which were recovered and returned to owners through local authorities.
The Army said the operations are part of ongoing efforts to curb terrorism and banditry in the region. It urged residents to provide credible intelligence to support security operations.
Lt. Col. Olaniyi Osoba, Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 8 Division/Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA, signed the statement dated May 15, 2026.
