Troops Repel ISWAP Attack on FOB Mairari, Destroy VBIEDs and Seize Weapons

Troops of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) have foiled a coordinated attack by ISWAP terrorists on a Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Mairari, Borno State, destroying two Vehicle-Borne Improvised Explosive Devices (VBIEDs) and inflicting heavy losses on the attackers.

The attack began late on December 12 and extended into the early hours of December 13, 2025, but was decisively repelled through coordinated ground and air operations.

The terrorists attempted to breach the base using two VBIEDs, both of which were detected early and neutralised by OPHK troops, preventing any penetration of the facility.

Security footage and field reports confirmed that several terrorists were killed, while others sustained serious injuries and were evacuated by fleeing elements.

In a follow-up operation, troops of OPHK Sector 3, supported by the Theatre Command Quick Reaction Group, Nigeria Police Crack Team and the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), conducted a detailed exploitation of the area.

The operation led to the recovery of weapons, ammunition and logistics abandoned by the terrorists during their retreat.

Items recovered included AK-47 rifles, magazines and ammunition, PKT rounds, hand grenades, motorcycles, communication devices, combat gear and medical supplies, further degrading the group’s operational capability.

The destroyed VBIEDs caused damage to sections of the road but there was no breach of the FOB, underscoring the vigilance and combat readiness of the troops.

Aggressive patrols are ongoing to prevent further attacks and reassure local communities.

Operation HADIN KAI said it remains committed to defeating terrorist elements, protecting civilians and restoring lasting peace and stability across the Northeast.
