Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued 10 kidnap victims in separate operations across Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara states, the military said Thursday.
The operations were conducted between August 18 and August 19 as troops intensified efforts to protect communities and counter terrorist activities across the region.
In Sokoto, troops on patrol in Isa Local Government Area encountered a terrorist ambush Wednesday and responded by forcing the attackers to flee, according to a statement by Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja, the task force's media information officer.
Five civilians were rescued during the encounter and later reunited with their families, while two motorcycles abandoned by the fleeing terrorists were recovered.
In Kebbi, troops acting on intelligence about three kidnapped victims conducted a search-and-rescue operation Tuesday in Danko Wasagu Local Government Area.
The operation resulted in the rescue of all three victims, who were profiled before being handed over to the appropriate local authorities.
Also Tuesday, troops responded to reported terrorist activity in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The military said the rapid deployment forced the terrorists to flee, leaving behind two captives.
The two victims had sustained gunshot wounds during their captivity and were evacuated to a medical facility for urgent treatment.
The task force said troops were continuing efforts to track and neutralize the fleeing terrorists.
Danja said the Theatre Command commended the troops for their vigilance and swift response and assured residents that operations against terrorist elements would continue across the Joint Operations Area.
The military also urged members of the public to provide timely and credible information to security forces to support ongoing operations and help protect lives and property.
