Former U.S. President Donald J. Trump on Monday said that the United States and Iran have engaged in “very good and productive conversations” aimed at resolving hostilities in the Middle East.
In a tweet, Trump wrote, “Based on the tenor and tone of these in-depth, detailed, and constructive conversations, which will continue throughout the week, I have instructed the Department of War to postpone any and all military strikes against Iranian power plants and energy infrastructure for a five-day period, subject to the success of the ongoing meetings and discussions.”
Trump described the talks as a “complete and total resolution of our hostilities in the Middle East” and thanked followers for their attention to the matter.
The announcement comes amid heightened tensions in the Gulf region following recent threats from Iran to deploy naval mines and target critical energy infrastructure.
