Two Injured As Trucks Collide On Lagos-Ibadan Expressway

Two persons sustained injuries in the early hours of Sunday following a collision involving two trucks at the Arepo Bridge section of the Lagos‑Ibadan Expressway.

The accident, which occurred around 4 a.m., involved an empty American Cola truck and a Seaco truck.

The crash caused heavy traffic gridlock along the busy highway as officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps moved to clear the wreckage and tow the affected vehicles away from the road.

Eyewitnesses said one of the drivers suffered severe injuries and was quickly taken to a hospital for treatment, while the other driver escaped with minor injuries.

A witness, Ibukun Victoria, said the accident may have been triggered by slippery waste materials allegedly left on the road between the Arepo and Magboro axis of the expressway.

The driver of the American Cola truck, Yakubu Musa, who sustained minor injuries, explained that his vehicle began to sway after running over the slippery substance, causing him to lose control before hitting the median barrier.

Another motorist at the scene, John Emmanuel, criticised the dumping of substances capable of causing accidents on the highway and called for the arrest of whoever was responsible.

A police officer present at the scene said he was not authorised to speak to the media. At the same time, officials of the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency later arrived to manage traffic and ease the congestion caused by the crash.
