UNILAG Says Exams Will Continue Despite ASUU Dispute

The University of Lagos (UNILAG) confirmed Tuesday that semester examinations will proceed as scheduled despite reports that the university’s chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) had instructed members to suspend teaching over unpaid Consolidated Academic Teaching Allowances (CATA).

UNILAG management said the ASUU declaration did not follow proper procedures and stressed that discussions with the union’s executive are ongoing to resolve staff concerns.

The university noted that exams are critical for students, including those preparing for internships, the Students’ Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES), and admission to the Law School. Exams scheduled for Wednesday, March 11, will take place as planned, while courses affected by departmental decisions will be rescheduled, with new dates announced later.

All remaining exams from Thursday, March 12, will continue, and deans have been tasked with ensuring smooth administration. Management called on students and staff to remain calm and continue their academic activities while talks with ASUU continue.
